Timeless, Meet Trend
From an early age, I recognized fashion as an accessory to the personality- an inventive extension of someone’s everyday presence. In my head, different styles belonged to different people: Audrey Hepburn was synonymous with a pleated cigarette pant, Jackie Kennedy was the matriarch of monochrome, and Grace Kelly redefined femininity with kitten heels and a tulle crinoline.
From designing my own clothes on paper to putting an outfit together in the morning, it’s always been important to me to incorporate traditional elements into the way that I dress. An oversized [and very twirlable] coat seems to be a current staple in many women’s closets (not to mention, a heavily recurring item on my Instagram feed)! I found a pale blue, timeless looking coat at Neiman’s a while back, buying it six sizes too big (they were out of my size, but I figured it would fit right in with the ongoing “boyfriend coat” trend), and I paired it with matching TopShop heels for that Jackie O monochromatic touch. The plan was to wear white silk cigarette pants, but a certain little sister of mine seemed to be borrowing [stealing] them at the time, so I donned a cuffed pair of jeans to make the outfit more approachable. With blue jewels to incorporate some sophistication and a pair of black cat eye sunglasses (subtle nod to Breakfast at Tiffany’s Holly Golightly), my little homage to fashion’s most dashing and daring was complete!
Fun fact: I buy all my “diamond” jewelry from Target! Nobody can tell the difference from afar, and those who are too afraid to ask are left ogling at nothing more than a $10 cut of cubic zirconia!
